Pean tunnistama, et kohanesin üllatavalt kergesti puuriselu tingimustega. Mis puutub asja materiaalsesse külge, siis nautisin lausa paradiisirõõme: päeval täitsid ahvid mu vähimadki soovid, öösel jagasin ilmaruumi ühe kõige kaunima tüdruku aset. Harjusin selle elulaadiga niivõrd, et terve kuu ei teinud ühtegi tõsisemat katset selle lõpetamiseks, lakkasin koguni tajumast tema erakordsust ja alandavaid külgi. Vaevalt õppisin juurde mõned ahvikeelsed sõnad, ei midagi enamat. Loobusin püüetest Ziraga kontakti luua, nii et kui algul kalduski vaistlikult minus mõistuslikku olendit nägema, pidi ta nüüd nõustuma Zaiuse väidetega ja käsitama mind kui oma planeedi inimest, see tähendab kui looma, ent igal juhul mitte kui mõistuslikku olendit.
