I’ve wanted to play this game since before it came out, as a huge fan of Dead by Daylight. The running is a big janky, though. You hold the button down and the character just kind of stutters forward rather than actually running. The characters also look pretty goofy - goofier than the other games, at least.
And don’t get me started on the collection box that shows you how many trinkets you’ve found. I would get SO excited to see it thinking it was a new collectible but NOPE. That thing is a troll and I wish I could throw it. There’s also plenty of locations that made me go, “Oh, I bet there’s a collectible over here” but NOPE. Just a dead end.
One thing I really enjoy is the “point of no return” warning. It’s so perfect for collectors like me. I enjoyed finding all the plushies, too! I was so excited to see all the killers and that doctor plush? Easily the cutest. I need one IRL.
As for the skill checks… when they first appeared with that iconic sound, I was so happy I was grinning like a goof. But girl, please explain to me how I managed to hit a great skill check every single time in this game yet I can’t hit a single one in DBD to save my life - LITERALLY. I wish they were this easy in DBD too lol
When the game ended, I found myself asking, “That’s it?!” because it just felt way too short and I was left feeling unsatisfied and wanting more. Which is crazy because I prefer shorter games. I guess I was feeling excited to get my questions about the DBD world answered. I ended up with MORE questions than answers.
Then there’s the unskippable ending credits. Oh, I’m sorry, you just gotta sit there for five minutes before they allow you to skip. WHY?? Just let us skip the damn credits.
Overall, as a DBD fan, this game was a bit disappointing because I was hoping to learn more about the entity and the realm. When the game was first announced, I was hoping it would follow one of the ACTUAL characters from DBD, but it doesn’t. I know nothing about these characters and, if I’m being honest, I didn’t really connect with any of them.
If you separate the two games and look at this one as its own thing with some DBD references, it’s a pretty good game. It kept me interested and helped me get through a stressful time.
