Daniel Craig continues the game
Daniel Craig's new James Bond movie had to wait two years. And although this is a fairly small time interval between the Bond series, the new film was created on another large scale, primarily financially. The painting received a budget of $ 200 million, but, as it seemed to me, it did not master it in the best way, since the scale of the painting was not particularly felt. Yes, this is a new chapter in the modern story about Agent 007, but the picture looks an order of magnitude, or even two lower than its predecessor Casino Royale. Again, in my personal opinion.
"Quantum of Solace" starts literally right after the end of the events of the previous film. James Bond begins to spin a complicated story, realizing that a powerful organization is behind the events that are taking place in his professional life. This organization has long arms, it is ready to get to any cog of the world system, if necessary.
The project looks raw. I reviewed the film several times, but the impression of working on the script remained unchanged. I read in some sources that it was all the fault of the writers' strike that raged while working on the film. A notable and memorable event that still pops up when discussing, as a rule, well-known TV series, where the number of episodes in the seasons has been reduced. In the Bond film, there are problems with the presentation of the material. There is no complete picture, it seems that the script has been rewritten several times, because the picture is frankly stormy, and the outline of the narrative is broken. And it is hardly possible to justify a strike. If there was such a problem, then it was worth doing everything right, for example, rescheduling the release date. But it is clear that Hollywood is a complex structure that is built on schedules and deadlines, so there could be no postponements. As a result, the overall impression of the presentation of the material, even after so many years after the release of the picture on the screens, remains negative.
Craig remained the same as he appeared in the previous film. His character did not receive much development in this picture. The actor is also resourceful, daring and quite realistic (if I may say so) in the image of Bond. Olga Kurylenko, whose heroine Kamila struggles with childhood injuries and is obsessed with revenge, is also not bad. This arch is revealed by the creators in the course of the plot. The villain Dominic Green, played by Mathieu Amalric, is not impressed. There are such mismatches in the image. You don't take this villain seriously, he seems somehow cardboard and unconvincing. Although I still associate this with a weak script, and not with the actor's performance. Judi Dench is not particularly remembered in this film. Her M was of little importance to the narrative of the story.
There are so many complaints about the film, but I still rated it 7th. Why? It's probably the spirit of Bond after all. With the full range of problems of this picture, the film still retains all the important attributes of this spy franchise. The project is replete with high-quality pictures and excellent camera work (however, not for the announced budget of 200 million). What is the initial scene of the chase between the top cars and the bright fiery finale.
The project is not without problems. However, the film, as an ordinary action movie, is weighty and good. For me, seeing this picture again is not a bad pastime, but I understand that this is another puzzle of the entire series of films, which is simply necessary.
