Another John McLane Christmas
"Die Hard" proved to be a great movie. A memorable action movie, which, as time has shown, looks quite interesting in our time. After the nightmarish terrorist attack in Los Angeles, when the Nakatomiya skyscraper was captured by Hans Gruber and his company of thugs, and John McLane significantly contributed to the elimination of that group, the policeman could hardly have imagined that something like this could happen to him and his wife. But Hollywood screenwriters may surprise you, Mr. McLane. And so, on another Christmas Eve, the hero of Bruce Willis has to face again a whole gang of terrorists who decided to take over the sky and paralyze the operation of the airport in snowy Washington.
What is usually expected from a sequel, which was the second film about Die Hard Willis? Of course, there are even more serious problems for the main character and others, more intense actions, an even more twisted plot and necessarily increased intensity of action on the screen. A classic approach to the second film, which the creators tried to implement. I would like to note that they succeeded with a vengeance.
The picture looks much bigger and much more interesting. Now there are more explosions, shootouts, various locations and heroes in the film. The plot and McLane's actions in it teach people to be attentive and suspicious enough, because it was these qualities that allowed the hero of Bruce Willis to discover dangerous villains even before the horror began at the airport and in the sky above the city. Of course, it is hardly worth playing John McLane in real life, because he is still a policeman with some experience. But it is worth paying tribute to the screenwriters, they successfully used these qualities of a man to masterfully begin their narrative.
The film once again introduces the audience to the beloved characters played by Willis and his on-screen wife played by Bonnie Bedelia. Both characters, although they will be far from each other, perfectly convey the atmosphere of what is happening to them in different locations. The would-be journalist Thorberg, played by William Etherton, who has already "proved" himself in the first picture, will also appear in the film. This guy is the decoration of the movie. The actor has succeeded well in this image, he will play his important role and will face McLane's wife Holly more than once.
The main antagonist of the picture, Stewart, was well represented by actor William Sadler. The vivid role of a man, it seems to me, is still one of the most iconic in his career.
There are several other minor characters in the film, each of which is introduced very successfully. The characters make the film more vivid, at one time helping or hindering the resolution of the horrific terrorist act that happened at the Washington airport.
The film is sure to please with a lot of action scenes. These are well-designed and masterfully staged chases, explosions and shootouts in a still traditional style. You can feel the era: automatic bursts, a lot of deaths of scoundrels, colorful explosions and the like. All this is well known to those who are interested in the militants of those years.
The creators received a budget that was more than twice the amount spent on filming the first part: $ 70 million versus $ 28 million. This difference is felt in literally everything, from the visual, huge local scenes, to more complex and much larger-scale activities on the screen.
The film is good in all respects. This is a solid action movie with a lot of charismatic heroes and villains, enough drama and a couple of cool plot twists that you may not be ready for at all. John McLane will once again be a sarcastic tired policeman, who will surely please with humor and the ability to deal with the villains who decided to spoil Christmas for him and the residents of the city.
