Let's play a game
Hardly anyone could have expected that a film with a small budget, which was shot in fact in one room with dirty walls, would be the beginning of a very famous project in the horror genre. "Saw" allowed to bring the horror bar to a new level. Until now, most people consider this film to be the best in the entire series.
The success of the film, in my opinion, lies in its singularity. In some old basement, strangers come to their senses. They see a corpse in the center of the hall, and they are chained by their feet to the pipes. Shock, anger, despair. All these emotions will be their companions at different moments of the film. All this diversity helps to achieve a great script, which by the way was written by the performer of one of the main roles Lee Wannell. The plot develops, introducing us to the characters through numerous flashbacks. We begin to understand how the heroes are connected with the place in which they found themselves hostages. And they are limited in time.
Lee Wannell and Cary Elvis (the second main character) do a great job with their roles. They're trying to figure out what brought them here. How to get out of here. I especially remember Elvis, whose hero is very afraid for his family, he is on the verge of despair, animal despair, but he is ready to do anything to save his loved ones.
Other famous actors also appear in the film. Danny Glover, Michael Emerson, Ken Leung. Each fits perfectly into what is happening, allowing you to connect the whole picture together to the finale of the film.
The musical accompaniment with its main theme makes you goosebumps, makes you dive into the film even deeper, literally having been in the shoes of the poor. And the final chords with an unexpected denouement generally leave the audience in a state of shock.
The maniac who decided to test the strength of the main characters is right in every phrase. He sees the world from his point of view, knows, is sure that he is acting for the good. A kind of god who knows who and how much is allotted.
"Saw" spawned several sequels, became a successful horror film, which was shot perfectly, despite its modest financial capabilities and rather limited capabilities. This is a great example of the fact that in a film, the actors' performance, the director, the script are much more important than budgets. All together gives a unique picture, memorable characters, true emotions from watching a great movie. And let it still be seen that they were filmed almost in Spartan conditions. The movie turned out great for me anyway. Otherwise, they simply wouldn't have continued.
