The confrontation that was expected
After the success of "Man of Steel" and the obvious references in the film to Bruce Wayne, fans began to wait for the sequel. Moreover, it was announced pretty soon. The sign is more than flashy — "Batman vs Superman". These heroes had never met on the big screen before, and there was no question of their conflict.
I would like to note right away that there are two versions of the film: theatrical and director's. I have seen both and I confidently declare that you need to watch the version from Zack Snyder lasting 3 hours and 2 minutes. Viewing the theatrical version leaves a lot of questions, inconsistencies and reveals little about the motivation of the characters.
The film immediately sets up a gloomy mood. This is a kind of feature of the company. The shots are beautiful, the music is decent. All this sets the tone, which runs like a red thread through the entire narrative.
Henry Cavill's character continues to evolve. He continues to search for himself after declaring his existence to the world. On the one hand, he is a successful reporter who wants to cover important issues for society. And on the other hand, the strongest of the creatures known to the planet, and he considers it his duty to protect ordinary people. But it is quite difficult to combine two personalities at once. And Cavill perfectly demonstrates this on the screen.
Amy Adams is still good as Lois Lane. She investigates, finds out and tries in every way to help Superman in the human world. But the journalist no longer knows how to be a person in this harsh world, she also feels the burden of responsibility on the shoulders of a Man of Steel, being his soul mate.
The introduced characters fit seamlessly into the already existing world. It's as if they are not new characters, but people who have been living inside this universe for a long time. And this is the merit of the screenwriters and the director.
Bruce Wayne came out very dark and very brutal. Few people believed in Ben Affleck's candidacy, but they were categorically mistaken. He showed a different Batman, that crime fighter who has hardened in battles with criminals over the past 20 years.
Sarcastic Alfred, played by Jeremy Irons, creates a kind of tandem with Batman. Irons smartly shows a close connection with his younger comrade and tries in every possible way to smooth out the sharp corners.
Lex Luthor appears modernized, which is quite interesting and even unpredictable. Jess Eisenberg is a great actor and did an excellent job. His Luthor causes a certain disgust, constant tension, because he is ambiguous. He seems to want the right things, but his methods are quite radical.
Wonder Woman performed by Gal Gadot looks impressive. The actress manages to show her determination, experience and knowledge, which is later clearly seen in her solo film, where she also perfectly conveys naivety and ignorance of the world of people.
In the director's version, there are many new scenes that reveal the essence of the conflict between Superman and Batman, the whole scheme of the villains is visible. Perhaps both heroes behave a little childish, but confrontation is inevitable and it is difficult for them to agree. Snyder, as always, is good in visual terms. Beautiful actors, beautiful scenes, interesting dialogues.
Hans Zimmer re-creates the atmosphere with his music. Recognizable motifs, depth of rhythms, beautiful melodies. I think that half of the success of the film is in Zimmer's music.
The result is a fascinating and long blockbuster that is very memorable. Significant questions are raised about the existence of God in the person of Superman, what he should be and what he is. You understand perfectly well what would happen if this hero were in our modern society, and Superman himself learns what it means to be human.
