They gave us a gift… Director Denis Villeneuve has established himself as a kind of storyteller. He presents us with an intriguing film "The Killer", a difficult story in "Captives", an atmospheric "Enemy". Each of these films has a rather noticeable handwriting of the author. And now Villeneuve's new creation "Arrival" is coming out. This is an adaptation of Ted Chan's work "The Story of Your Life", which I read after and which is as interesting as the film itself. The picture flows smoothly and without any shocks according to the prescribed scenario. Atmospheric long plans, accompanying, sometimes soporific music by Johan Johannsson, short dialogues and only useful actions with all this allow us to enjoy the vision of the fantastic world into which the author immerses us. Aliens descend from heaven all over the world at once, but do not attack, as we are used to seeing in adventure blockbusters. Instead, they wait and seem to invite people to get acquainted. But a predictable language barrier makes it difficult to make a historic meeting meaningful. Then the heroine Amy Adams comes to the fore. The actress gave us a great character Louise Banks with her performance. This is an ordinary woman who teaches linguistics at an educational institution and at the same time once worked with the military, which gives her permission to try to establish contact with aliens. Jeremy Renner's character Ian Donnelly, who is a physicist, becomes her companion. His goal is similar, but he relies on the laws of nature, science, trying to describe what is happening from this point of view. And together, the couple tries to find an approach to understanding the complex language of those who arrived on Earth. The world that Villeneuve shows seems real. Quite predictable actions of the military, people, the whole world. The first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization happened. And people do not know what the goals of the arrivals are. Are they guests? Or the colonizers? If the latter, then why don't they attack? Through the prism of the events taking place, the creators show us the story of the main character, her close relationship with her daughter, problems with the father of her child. All this is served carefully, without breaking the thread of a gradual narrative. The explosions of emotions and inner experiences of the heroine Adams are shown very competently, forcing the viewer to feel all the pain of the girl, the discovery that she makes, gradually learning the alien language. And this gift stays with her forever, makes it possible to realize the choice that has already been made. It is difficult to reveal your emotions after watching and not highlighting the disclosure of the plot. I won't do it, because then the whole picture and its feeling inside the viewer will be broken. For everyone, this story will be his own, each viewer will experience this deep story himself, together with the heroes of the work. I just want to say that this is a deep and very emotional story. Everyone will see something beautiful in it for themselves. But the message remains always true and correct. We should understand for ourselves how dear our loved ones and loved ones are to us, we need to tell them about it more often, we need to live here and now, and when life passes, clearly understand again for ourselves that life with loved ones is something that you are ready to go through again and will not change your decision whatever the ending of your life story turns out to be. 10 out of 10
