Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were arch-enemies, they were closest of friends, working together with other mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known.

Rethinking the Story of the X-Men The successful trilogy, and then also a solo project about Wolverine, strengthened the public's faith in the quality of projects about mutants. However, the franchise needed something fresh. And in 2011, a new project appeared on the screens, which someone called a restart, and someone just a backstory. The film "X-Men: First Class" became an excellent ideological sequel, which I liked much more than any previous picture about the adventures of mutants. The plot was great. Director Matthew Vaughn and his team managed to approach the creation of the picture so carefully and with respect to previous films that it did not cause any rejection or controversy. The story introduces the already beloved main characters, including young versions of Charles Xavier and Eric Lansher. The famous future leaders of the two opposing teams appear as comrades. But already in this film, we perfectly see the familiar beliefs of the young heroes, which in the future will become the motivation of these characters. The choice of actors for the title roles was also pleasing. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender smartly introduced the young Professors X and Magneto to the public. The viewer will be able to clearly trace why Eric and Charles were able to make friends cautiously, with fear and distrust of each other. And why do two people perceive this changing world so differently. Xavier is a humanist who believes in the goodness in every being, he is a man who grew up in a huge ancestral nest. Lansher is a mutant who experienced all the hardships and sorrows of the Nazi regime, remaining embittered at the world after heavy losses in the camps. It is after this film that it becomes clear that all attempts to become true friends were failed in advance, and the split was just a matter of time. Other characters also came out worthy of attention, among which I would mention the Mystic performed by the future Oscar-winning Jennifer Lawrence, as well as the menacing Sebastian Shaw, who was embodied on the screen by Kevin Bacon. The mature antagonist was written very decently, and it was interesting to observe the implementation of his plans. There were other important characters in the frame. Their stories were also well shown, and the actors chosen for these roles did an excellent job. For this, it is worth thanking not only the screenwriters, the director and the entire film crew, but also the performers of these roles themselves: Zoey Kravitz, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Lucas Till and others. The film takes viewers back to the early 1960s and perfectly fits the story of the mutant clash into one of the most dangerous confrontations of the Cold War, when the United States staged a naval blockade in an attempt to prevent the installation of missiles in Cuba by the Soviet military in response to the deployment of their missiles by the Americans in Turkey. According to the scriptwriters, the participation of mutants turned out to be closely connected with this page of world history. This made it even more interesting to watch what was happening on the screen. The film is intended not only to show the new mutants, their life in the human world, but also finally to give some answers to how Magneto and Professor X came to become friends into opponents. Bacon's character will play an important role in this. It is with his playing and his strong character that I personally associate this work. Shaw's beliefs and motivation became one of the starting points for the formation of a young Lansher at that time. The film will provide many answers to questions of interest to the audience, and the finale will be large-scale and dramatic at the same time. "First Class" was a great start for the future round of the already familiar franchise. This is a strong movie with a perfectly written story and characters. The characters are interesting to watch. All sides came out strong in the film: the plot, the acting, the visual component. The painting rightfully takes its place in the mutant universe. 9 out of 10
