Everyone has their own prison in the soul
"The Green Mile" is one of the most famous and excellent film adaptations of the works of the master of horror Stephen King. Choosing this movie to watch, you immerse yourself in the beautifully rendered world of the last century, where prisoners are waiting in the wings in a prison cell. And the guards are represented by a variety of images. And each of these images shows us completely diverse and well-developed stories. Those that allow you to get into the soul of each hero.
Frank Darabont's magnificent production lasts more than three hours. However, this story will not have enough shorter timekeeping to introduce the audience to the whole picture. However, the film does not seem to be drawn out at all. He moves in a good narrative manner, with well-staged scenes, elaborate dialogues that allow you to get to know the characters from several sides. The accuracy of the frame, the lighting, the prison atmosphere — everything is shown very interestingly.
The cast is full of famous names, among which the main decoration, of course, are two for me personally: Michael Clarke Duncan and Tom Hanks. The first one plays a good-natured big man accused of murdering little girls, who does not pull at all like a murderer. The second is the head of the security shift. Throughout the whole picture, their interaction, dialogues leave a feeling of some kind of restrained warmth and barely perceptible sympathy for each other. Hanks is ready to believe in the innocence of the hero Duncan, and he is ready to help with the warden's illness.
Separately, I would like to say about the hero Doug Hutchison. He played Warden Percy. In general, I have my own attitude to this actor after the role in the series "The X-Files", where he played Victor Eugene Tooms, a nasty and nasty character. But in this film, the actor has reached a definitely new level. He conveyed the image so well that to this day, remembering the film "The Green Mile", I shudder from the memory of this warden. I think that this is a great actor's performance, if the viewer has such emotions.
The picture, of course, is not complete without some mystical and even fantastic component. It is very skillfully and organically woven into the canvas of the work, makes you think whether what happened in the performance of the hero Duncan is real or not. And these moments are so successful that there is no doubt that the story is authentic.
"The Green Mile" was nominated for 4 Oscars, but did not receive any. It is sad. After all, among the awards could be the Best film and the Best supporting actor. These would be worthy victories. But this is not very important when you know that such a picture rightfully occupies one of the highest places in the ratings of all films that have ever existed. The film will not leave anyone indifferent, will give a lot of emotions, will allow you to look at the characters from unusual angles. The viewer will understand that not all people behind bars are the ultimate villains, and the police are completely human and represent justice and truth. I think that this film is mandatory for everyone to watch.
