The Trojan War through the eyes of Hollywood "Troy" is certainly a large scale and epoch-making work of the early 21st century. This is a high-quality film, where the artwork and historical events are competently combined. The action on the big screen allowed us to get closer to the events of antiquity and legends, to see their interpretation by our contemporaries. This was done with respect for well-known historical facts and with the scale typical of Hollywood. I've always liked Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. The era of Gods and Heroes, famous exploits and legendary wars. Wolfgang Petersen's film takes viewers back to those times, allowing them to see in three hours the amazing story of the confrontation between the Greeks and the Trojans, who came together in many battles for the honor of Menelaus, one of the great Greek heroes. Homer's Iliad is probably known to everyone. Dozens of heroes, many confrontations and battles, certain associations with those times — all this is somehow connected with the poem. The creators of "Troy" managed to turn a famous ancient Greek work into a blockbuster that met all the requirements of the modern viewer. The film involves first-class actors, the most famous heroes of that terrible war are represented. Scenario moves allow you to get to know everyone, consider the motivation of a particular character, and learn their interesting stories. I would recommend watching the director's version of the film. Even though this version lasts more than three hours, it has slightly changed colors, angles and added a lot of scenes. All this makes the film tougher and more watchable, making it clear that that war was really bloody and great. Basically, any war is grief and death, destruction and suffering of people. The creators of this masterpiece also demonstrate this to us on the screen. The story is presented without excessive pathos, which, it seems to me, is characteristic of the original source with its vivid and at the same time complex narrative. The screenwriters were very successful in transferring the most important things into their work and adapting this story so that it looked acceptable to our contemporaries. Of course, there are literary dialogues and grandiose actions of the characters in the picture, but there is nowhere without them, and all this in general does not spoil the perception. On the contrary, it allows you to immerse yourself in that distant era. We will not see here the famous Olympian gods who were direct participants in the Trojan War on the pages of the Iliad. As I noted above, everyone here has tried to lead to realism, which means that people are the main actors in the confrontations. Human decisions lead to what we see on the screen. These are the abduction /escape of Helen, the battle of Achilles and Hector, the battle of Patroclus, the arrival of King Priam to Achilles and their dialogue, the ill-fated arrow of Paris and of course the Trojan Horse, whose story is already well known by everyone, young and old. The film turned out to be a mega-scale. An almost two hundred million dollar budget and a powerful marketing company made it possible to reveal that distant world to the modern viewer: costumes, weapons, decorations — all this leaves no doubt that we really have the legendary Troy and the war for it. "Troy" is one of the highest quality films in the peplum genre, where the creators were able to so subtly feel the line that should not be crossed. The film was released in moderation in everything: without excessive pathos, but still with him, with large-scale battles, but in which you believe, with a beautiful duel between the main characters Hector and Achilles, which could well have been conducted by real people. The cast is undoubtedly the decoration of this project. Here, each character appears as a fully formed character who plays a significant role in the project. The actors are dramatic in their roles, some are cruel, others are contradictory, and others are entirely positive. The creators tried to show us the bulk of the heroes who participated in the Trojan War: Agamemnon, who wanted to conquer Troy, his brother Menelaus, who was humiliated by the abduction of his wife — the beautiful Helen, Paris, who turned out to be just a youngster in the film, that even, it seems to me, did not understand what he had done with his act. Achilles and Hector stand apart. Mighty warriors on different sides. The first one dreams of battles and glory, the second one does not want anything like that, wanting only to protect his family and people. Other heroes are also good, among whom we were shown Patroclus, Briseis, Thetis, Odysseus, Ajax. "Troy" came out a wonderful movie. This is a large-scale project that has absorbed all the best from Hollywood, managed to contain restrained pathos, realism with assumptions on the screen. The film has become one of the pillars of the genre, allowing you to enjoy an interesting story over and over again, a high-quality picture and, of course, a wonderful soundtrack by James Horner. 10 out of 10
