The final chord for Agent 007 Connery
George Lazenby, in my opinion, quite well embodied on the screen the now legendary agent 007, replacing Sean Connery. The first one was supposed to continue playing the role of a British secret agent, but he was replaced by a beloved actor from Scotland. De Beers, which partially financed the project, set conditions that Connery should once again embody James Bond in the frame. In addition, all the jewels that the audience sees on the screen are real and belong to the same De Beers. Lazenby also became an actor in one, albeit a good movie, we did not see him in the role of a spy anymore.
Sean Connery again took to the big stage, where he had to once again fight with the famous enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Immediately I would like to note that the opponent No. 1 for James in this film seemed to me somehow boring, unoriginal and even passing. Well, he did not inspire fear or anxiety in any way. Rather, he behaved with all his might so that Bond had the opportunity to repeatedly break out of his hands and in any way resist the plans of the head of the Spectrum.
The film itself is more remembered for two strange villains (Mr. Kidd and Screw) who followed Agent 007 everywhere. They seemed much more dangerous and colorful. But strange.
The movie is good. This picture seems to be swinging for a long time, paying more attention to the detective component. But the closer the action gets to the finale, the more action we see on the screen. Here, the creators tried to show everything, as if they knew that Sean Connery was starring as James Bond for the last time (in fact, not the last). Therefore, they decided to arrange car chases, dynamic fights in elevators, incredible somersaults on a lunar rover and much more in a variety of locations. Sometimes you realize that you even managed to get tired of such a rattling mixture of what is happening.
After watching the movie, you suddenly realize that Bond has aged after all. Not only the actor, but also the approach to creating Bond. After all, almost a decade has passed since the premiere of the first film, which was fresh and suited its time. For 1971, little has changed in the approach to shooting such an action movie, and this was probably the right moment to say goodbye to Sean Connery and update the approach to making films of the franchise. This Bond has had enough, it's really time for him to retire.
"Diamonds are Forever" eventually became for me an average project about the adventures of James Bond. Reviewing the film once again, you conclude that you are already waiting for the next film in the series with an updated Bond. Connery was good, and in this film too, but the picture is not remembered much, even despite the abundance of action in the frame.
The era of the first agent ends with two zeros, a decade on the screen passed quickly enough for the viewer. The picture turned out to be not particularly spectacular, but still rightfully occupies a worthy place in the collection of stories about the adventures of the legendary English scout. Sean Connery, thank you and goodbye.
