The James Bond Reboot
Six long years have passed since the last film about the now legendary British intelligence agent 007 James Bond. During this time, a lot has changed in the world of Bond. The rights issues were settled, and the company EON Productions, which was engaged in the creation of the franchise films about the English spy, was taken over by Albert Broccoli's daughter Barbara and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson.
The franchise has been rebooted on a massive scale. Timothy Dalton couldn't wait for his third appearance as 007 in the new film. It is known that the project had the working title "Lady's Property", but it did not work out. In place of the charismatic Dalton, who breathed new life into Bond, came a fairly young Pierce Brosnan, who, by the way, coped well with the responsibility assigned to him and showed a new James. The actors also changed to other seemingly permanent roles. M has now become a woman, and the role went to the excellent actress Judi Dench, who has been entrenched in this position for almost a couple of decades. I must say that this character has become very strong and important in every storyline of subsequent films. Miss Moneypenny has also become different. Now her role is played by Samantha Bond. However, in my opinion, the relationship (albeit fleeting) of her heroine with Brosnan's Bond was more like a parody of the same Roger Moore and Lois Maxwell in their respective roles. Desmond Llewelyn, who introduces his famous hero M., is still unchanged. The noticeably aged inventor of gadgets for 007 is trying to match the trends of the time, offering something new for the next task.
Pierce Brosnan as James Bond attracts special attention in this picture. Naturally. One way or another, I would like to compare his spy with other reincarnations of a British agent. It should be said that this 007 turns out to be decent. Brosnan is at the same time unlike anyone else, but at the same time absorbs the best features of all previous hero actors. Brosnan's bond is quite charismatic. He can be tough, charming, funny and purposeful. A whole set of qualities generates a previously non-existent image of a British intelligence agent, which can be safely called unique.
It's funny, but Brosnan could have become James Bond already in 1987, taking Timothy Dalton's place. He even auditioned, but arrangements on another project, where he was involved for another season, did not allow the young actor to become what he eventually became in 1995.
The new picture looks decent, although it looks like a typical action movie of the early and mid-1990s. Now famous actors Sean Bean, Famke Janson, Robbie Coltrane, Gottfried Jon, Isabella Skorupko appear in the frame. Each of them does an excellent job with the assigned role, but the film itself seems to be devoid of any uniqueness that has always distinguished Bond films from other action films. As a result, I single out this picture for myself as an average work about a British agent. Although, of course, a couple of twists and a completely wild heroine performed by the gifted Famke Janson are remembered. Such a girl is really terrifying. This is essentially an unpredictable character in the body of a beauty — a deadly opponent for anyone.
It is impossible to ignore one of the legendary Bond tracks — "Golden Eye" performed by the famous singer Tina Turner. A gorgeous song that I already remember sounding from radios in the mid-1990s. Well, the screensaver, against which the song is performed, will make you laugh. No one has ever managed the symbols of the USSR in this way.
"Golden Eye" came out as an average James Bond movie. This is a good action movie, which for me became the first main one for a new hero who will show himself in future projects. The same story turned out to be moderately vivid and memorable thanks to the main character, his new mentor in the role of Judi Dench and charismatic villains.
