The final word about the Dyatlov Pass? The mystery of the Dyatlov Pass has always been shrouded in mystery and mysticism. There are dozens of assumptions about what could have happened to Dyatlov's group in the mountains of the Northern Urals, from the most common ones with an avalanche to the fantastic ones, which almost involve aliens from other worlds. A lot of artistic and documentary works have been shot on the topic of the tragedy that happened to the students. However, the Russian TV series of 2020 stands alone in this list. This is an interesting interpretation of those events, which seems to have absorbed all the most interesting and significant, and presented from the right angle. There are 8 episodes in the series. The story is told in two time lines and on behalf of different characters. In one of the lines, viewers are shown an investigation supervised by KGB Major Oleg Kostin, performed by Pyotr Fedorov. The second storyline focuses on the actual campaign of Igor Dyatlov's group. The material is served in turn. The first series starts with the beginning of the investigation of the tragedy, the second shows the start of the expedition, the third returns to the investigation, the fourth is again transferred to the heroes of Dyatlov's squad and so on. An unusual narrative, as it seemed to me at first, but without alternative successful. After all, this approach to telling this story allows you to focus on specific events at one time or another of this interesting work. Even the directors of these two parts of the general series were responsible for their own stories. For example, Valery Fedorovich and Evgeny Nikishov worked on the events that describe the course of the investigation, and Pavel Kostomarov and Stepan Gordeev told us the very story of tourists who died on their journey. The actors did an excellent job with their roles. They fit seamlessly into the world shown to the audience. The travelers of Dyatlov's squad seem to be really Soviet people, you can feel the realism in their game. Sometimes it happens that an actor clearly does not fit into the time in which events take place, and the viewer understands that modern people are in front of him, that they are just playing the roles they have set. However, each of the actors who was on the screen as a member of Igor Dyatlov's squad, as if they were really a man of the Soviet era. I especially remember and liked this moment. Of course, it was more difficult with Pyotr Fedorov, since he is already an actor familiar to me. Therefore, it was more difficult to perceive him as a Soviet person. However, the creators of the series have worked out the storyline of the investigation perfectly, allowing them to enjoy the twisted investigation with interest. Each episode keeps you in suspense, allows you to look at one or another version that is offered for consideration. Throughout the series, I had the feeling that the creators tried to highlight all possible adequate versions of what happened to the students of Dyatlov's squad. And all this was done without any "seams", successfully fitting into the overall concept of the narrative. The final version, which Kostin will voice to us, as it seemed to me, is intended to tell the audience and those interested in this mysterious story: "Calm down and accept. The tragedy that happened happened for this reason and for no other reason. Stop creating the illusion of something extraordinary." The acting and the intensity of what is happening on the screen reaches its climax in the finale. During my acquaintance with the main characters, as a spectator, I became sympathetic to these people. It was all the more interesting and disturbing to watch the end of the story. The creators competently brought it to the finale, allowing you to trace the whole story to the very end and accept what happened, allowing you to realize that there could be no other way on the screen, since this is a sad story that really happened. The series pleases with its atmosphere. The colors, the presentation of the material, the script — all this perfectly conveys that era, masterfully immersing the audience in that distant world already in time. The creators tried to make their story look like a cross between a modern interesting detective story and a work that could well have been filmed in the hot wake of events in those distant years now. I am pleased with everything without exception: dialogues, props, elaborate scenes, attention to detail. By creating such a project, the whole team approached the tragedy with respect. It feels like this was an important condition when filming. I fully admit that a lot of everything was invented for the sake of artistry, the same dialogues of the guys who died in that campaign, but everything looked exactly as it could well happen in reality. "The Dyatlov Pass Incident" undoubtedly occupies an important position in numerous stories about this unsolved tragedy. The series will be interesting to many, it will allow you to see another point of view on what happened in the snowy Ural Mountains in 1959. The project successfully combines a work of art with documentary elements, allows you to enjoy a dark story and fall in love with the characters thanks to excellent acting. 9 out of 10
