Memories from the past I will never forget how, as a child, I accidentally got into a movie about a young boy who was confined to a wheelchair, who encountered a terrible werewolf. That movie was called The Silver Bullet. It was only years later that I found out that this movie was based on the famous story "The Werewolf Cycle" by horror master Stephen King. I cannot help but note that it is the film and its characters that arise in the brain when you remember King's book. A movie with a realistic monster and good acting was too good at the time. I was looking for a book in a certain version and couldn't find it for a very long time to purchase. Famous book chains did not have them, and various private sellers did not have the edition I needed in their numerous stacks for sale. My search lasted for several years. Imagine my surprise when my father-in-law brought this paperback book from the train station, where it was just among the books that everyone could just take and take with them in the "Take with you on the road" department. In such places, people could leave their books and take existing ones for free. There was no limit to my happiness, I was very grateful to my father-in-law, and I went to read an interesting story. Unlike King's usual novels, where he likes to philosophize, reveal the characters, their inner world, doing this on hundreds and hundreds of pages, this work is much easier and much faster to read. This has its advantages. The author does not "harness" for a long time, but immediately sends readers into the thick of things. The characters do not suffer from non-disclosure. You are fully aware of who and what lives and breathes, what are the interests of the actors. I especially liked the main character, a boy in a wheelchair. King shows in the work that even people with disabilities are able to live a full life. What's there to live in. They can challenge dangers and difficulties that ordinary people sometimes cannot handle. This is an important idea of the work, which can be traced from page to page. Once again, you become convinced and catch yourself thinking that you can do more than you think. The main thing is to set a goal and go towards it with full responsibility. In the finale, you realize that in front of you is a completely atypical work by Stephen King. There are no long narratives or arguments here. There is a certain brief essay, which is presented rather dryly, by a simple enumeration of certain events that happened. But it's not a bad thing. This allows you to see the author from the other side. Such a narrative is neither worse nor better. It is precisely what is different that brings something new. "The Werewolf Cycle" is an interesting story, short, eventful at the same time, with colorful characters and, of course, an atmospheric antagonist. This book is perfect for reading on a cool rainy evening with hot tea somewhere in the silence of the house, in an armchair, when there is absolutely no one around. 9 out of 10
